Small Things

What a difference a half-day can make. I still see vestiges of a nightmare, most have faded.
Doing a project and keeping busy does work. I tackled shaping up a tree, an olive tree that produces branches everywhere, all the time. It was hard, physical work. It took several hours. I was finally able to see its trunk. It is a beautiful tree.
The weather was beautiful. The tortoise was still in hibernation; much too long, but it has not been tortoise weather. She doesn’t have a nice burrow that adoption people insist upon. She came to us way before such requirements were in effect. She hibernates in a special insulated box in the garage.
So I decided it was time for her to get up and I got her up. She is always slow at first. Finally she got moving, then got a drink, then decided she would eat what I put out for her.
The tortoise’s name is Susie. She has given me and my wife many laughs over the years and is a special pet. Getting her up was definitely a mood elevator.
Just as I was finishing with Susie, a friend called who wanted to meet for lunch. What an additional mood booster.
Right after lunch another friend texted. Wishing well, keeping in touch. What an additional mood booster.
After I got home, another friend texted, making contact for summer migration. What an additional mood booster.
My neighbor texted to come to dinner tomorrow. Special invitation. Another mood booster.
Then my grief partner texted wanting to come over. This was her last visit to her home that sold and it will be several weeks before I see her again. We both have trips, visitors scheduled, then I migrate.
We didn’t have a sad time. We thought of funny happenings and sat and laughed for a good hour. It did us both good.
I can barely remember the pictures of distress from this morning. Did the Cosmos hear my distress? I have never had so many texts and contacts in one day before.
These on the surface may seem like small things and small contacts. What many may take for granted. When it becomes essential to re-enter the world, and to have limited contacts, these seemingly small things are major. There are not that many people out there that really care. I am so fortunate that I have who I have.
Let me know how you are keeping in contact with others. Initiate contact. I care.
Contemplations: Small things can add up to be major occurrences.
Sincerely,
Lynn Brooke
